Bullying by Elijah

Did you know that one out of seven kids between the age of five and fourteen are either bullies or victims of bullying? Well, those victims are susceptible to many different afflictions.
Bullying. A problem, yes, a threat, yes, but a health hazard? You would be surprised by the effects that bullying has on your health. Being bullied can lower your self-esteem, or your opinion of yourself. Your self-esteem is related to your immune system, which protects you from bacteria and dangerous viruses. When your self-esteem is injured, your immune system is lowered. This makes you more prone to illnesses and diseases. Bullying can also cause such mental illnesses as anxiety or depression. One solution is to find your friends, both peers and adults. They will bring up your self esteem and alleviate depression. Try not to be alone at school; bullies will be hesitant to confront a group rather than a single individual. If the bully confronts you, stay calm and confident. Loosing your temper or resorting to violence will make it even worse. And, last but not least, remember that it isn't what others think that is important. It is what you think of yourself.
